Holiday Season Underway

Friday, November 27, 2009

Yesterady we spent a very pleasant Thanksgiving with my family.  It was nice to see and to spend time with everyone... we had a chance to talk and laugh, and even sing and play music together.  It was a very nice afternoon and evening.

Today we set up and decorated the Christmas tree.  I know a lot of people start decorating for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving (3 of my neighbors have already put up their Christmas lights), but for me it was rather the exception.  I guess I'm usually too busy or stressed out or preoccupied with one thing or another, and never really get into the swing of things.  I figure, if you're going to decorate and really enjoy your holidays, today is the day to start, or else you never really catch up.  In fact, it occurred to me that this is the first time in 4 years that my husband and I have spent the holiday season together in our own home.  We haven't been settled since we left Tucson.  Even the one Christmas in Oregon, he had already taken a job in California just two weeks before Thanksgiving, and we spent most of that time apart.

So, I'm hoping that this year, finally, we'll be able to take things easy, and enjoy the season.  Sunday we'll help kick things off by attending a Handel's Messiah Sing-Along.  This one is being held at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda; performances are at 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM (we're going to the 3:30 concert).  If you like to sing, break out your Schirmer score and join us!  Admission is free.
