Pi Day!
Thursday, March 14, 2013

It's Pi day! That glorious and irrational holiday we celebrate by eating pie and doing math! Today I'm having a slice of Claim Jumper Turtle Pie, which is quite delicious.

Today's math challenge in honor of Pi day:

What is the duration of a piece of music in 4/4 time, having 118 measures, when played at a steady tempo of 96 beats per minute? Round to the nearest second.

4 min, 55 seconds. That's a lot of notes.
3-14-13, it's the same forward and backward, another palindrome!

Why do the nations rage,
and the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
and cast away Their cords from us.”
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
the Lord shall hold them in derision.
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
and distress them in His deep displeasure:
“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”
— Psalm 2:1-6
