What is the Carolingian Realm?
This is my personal blog, and a place for me to share my various creative activities, hobbies and interests.
Why did you call it that?
The name “Carolingian Realm” started out with the idea of an elaborate world existing in my imagination, which I express at various times through music, poetry, storytelling, and other media. The historical term “Carolingian” comes from Charles the Great (Charlemagne). In addition to being my namesake (Carolyn is the feminine form of Charles), I like to employ the term as a reference to Lewis Carroll, who also had vast and elaborate worlds living in his imagination (which he expressed far more eloquently than I ever shall). In the works of Lewis Carroll, concepts like passing through a looking-glass or falling down a rabbit-hole suggest that these fantastic worlds are places to which one might actually travel. Art, then, in all its forms — including a blog such as this — becomes the vehicle by which one can experience such realms.
